History of Tora Budokan

Tora Budokan was founded in 1984 by Paul Dawe (6th Dan Black Belt) in Jersey, Channel Islands, with the goal of teaching traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu. The club follows the Tora system, which blends Oikiru Ryu and Kempa Ju-Jitsu, offering a well-rounded approach to self-defense and martial arts training.

Since then, Paul has expanded Tora Budokan beyond Jersey, establishing a club in Crescent Beach, British Columbia, Canada, and affiliating with a club in Liverpool, England. Today, all three clubs operate under the Tora Budokan Alliance, led by Paul.

Since 2020, the Jersey club has been based at Haute Vallee School, providing a dedicated space for students to train and develop their skills.

In Jersey, the club is now run by Sensei Alan Ward (2nd Dan Black Belt), who has over 50 years of martial arts experience and holds multiple black belts in different disciplines.

Over the years, hundreds of students have trained at Tora Budokan, learning the art of Japanese Ju-Jitsu in a welcoming and disciplined environment.
